Creating Memories with "Honley Remembers"

The centenary of Honley Peace Day took place on 19th of July 2019 and was an amazing event to commemorate and remember the lives of "Honley's Own" - who gave so much in the First World War for King and Country. I was honoured to be part of the amazing event organised by the wonderful Carol Roberts who did a fantastic job of giving our village a patriotic tribute with her passion and respectful commemoration of the sacrifices made by our local heroes.

The website can be found at www.honleyremembers.org and contains lots of wonderful history of our village through the war years.

My own tribute was to offer a "research" table for anyone to come and talk about their own family history and we searched many local names and home addresses online during the event and since. My display table had the research contained in 4 volumes of folders each with a page dedicated to every name on the Cenotaph in Honley, Green Cliff Graveyard.

It was an absolute honour to research each hero and put a background timeline for each and every one of them out of #respect and #honouring their sacrifice.

Each name has a timeline of their sadly too short lives and where they lived in the Honley or surrounding area.

Is your surname here? Want to know more? Or do you want find out more about "your house address" and "who your ancestors were?" It is a wonderful way to pay tribute to your heritage and to fill your "lockdown" time - but it is very "addictive" - you have been warned !

Drop us a message - always happy to help #creatingmemories #community #volunteer #inthistogether

This is always going to be a work in progress, as any of you who are tracing your own family history know !!! You never finish finding out about your ancestors - it is a real journey of discovery and an honour ...remember you are the result of a thousand loves.
